The Transitions Training Studio within the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is once again offering an 8-week Dynamic Movement & Balance Class for older adults. The class is based off the Otago Balance Program, developed in New Zealand, which has demonstrated to be effective in reducing falls and the number of injuries from falls by 35%!New for this 8-week class is it will be split into two groups. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department is proud to introduce our new Yoga for Older Adults! The mat yoga class is a slow to moderate paced Hatha yoga practice, which will move through poses to strengthen and lengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve balance. Participants MUST be able to move from a standing position to seated and laying position on a mat. The chair yoga class is a slow paced gentle stretching made accessible to everyone! There’s only one week left to nominate your department or unit for the university’s annual MHealthy Ergonomics Awards for Departments. Any faculty or staff member can nominate an area for reducing ergonomic risk factors by adding new equipment, modifying equipment, or redesigning work processes. Please join us in a free class designed for people with Parkinson’s and their families/care partners.In these classes with teachers trained by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Dance for PD® program, participants will explore music and movement in ways that are enjoyable, creative and stimulating.
