Jack Kufahl, the UMHS chief information security officer, recently reminded us of the importance of regularly improving our information security procedures. This message is especially significant as we see increased use of mobile and personal devices to share personal, research, patient, and other sensitive data. New graduate course series: Scientific Methods for Health Sciences
UMHS faculty have developed and implemented a new and innovative graduate methods and analytics course series, Scientific Methods for Health Sciences (SMHS): HS851, HS852, HS853. These Rackham-approved courses will be offered in a sequence, Fall 2016, Winter 2017, Fall 2017, respectively. The three courses (four credit hours each) cover modern techniques, utilize open-source software, and employ powerful case studies to demonstrate Big Data management, applied inference methods, develop skills for handling, harmonizing, aggregating, processing, analyzing and interpreting model-based (e.g., GLM) and model-free (e.g., unsupervised machine learning) methods.
