Free Parkinson’s Movement & Dance Class

Please join us in a free class designed for people with Parkinson’s and their families/care partners.In these classes with teachers trained by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Dance for PD® program, participants will explore music and movement in ways that are enjoyable, creative and stimulating.  This program is appropriate for all levels of PD.  No dance experience is required.  This six week session will be offered on Wednesday afternoons, 4:00-5:00 pm, April 20-May 25, 2016 at the Turner Senior Resource Center, 2401 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor, MI  48105.  There is no fee for these classes, but space is limited…

New! Dynamic Movement & Balance Class for older adults

The Transitions Training Studio within the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is once again offering an 8-week Dynamic Movement & Balance Class for older adults. Gifts of Art is currently accepting proposals for our 2016-2017 exhibit year! As one of the first and most comprehensive arts in healthcare programs nationwide, Gifts of Art brings the world of art & music to the University of Michigan Health System.  Our nine galleries display over 35 exhibits a year. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that increase the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.  The two most important risk factors for metabolic syndrome are extra weight around the middle of the body (central obesity, or "apple-shaped"), and insulin resistance, where the body cannot use insulin effectively. The goal of treatment is to reduce the risk of diseases with nutrition and exercise in the supportive environment of a structured program with peers.  We provide coaching strategies so that each individual participant can be successful in making positive changes in their lives that work for them.The…

The mat yoga class is a slow to moderate paced Hatha yoga practice, which will move through poses to strengthen and lengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve balance.
