Exciting changes for pediatric rehabilitation outpatient services

It’s been an exciting fall for the pediatric outpatient services offered by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Several of the renowned pediatric rehabilitation programs offered by U-M are relocating to the Pediatric Rehabilitation Center -- or PRC -- located at 2205 Commonwealth Blvd. in Ann Arbor. PRC’s expansion includes: Increased physician availability A new location for Milestones, U-M’s pediatric neurorehabilitation program, beginning Nov. 29. This program provides comprehensive rehabilitation services -- including education treatment and back-to-school planning -- for children and teens following illness or trauma resulting in neurologic sequelae. UMHS, partners to boost stroke treatment in Flint

Following the onset of a stroke, restoring blood flow to the brain as quickly as possible is critical for preventing disability and improving the chances of recovery. This crucial window for treatment is a narrow one – about 4 ½ hours – and the earlier the treatment, the better the outcome.  Yet because of a variety of barriers to timely evaluation and treatment, fewer than 5 percent of those who experience a stroke receive the proper care. UMHS aims to help improve these numbers in the communities that need it most.
