Reminder: Nominations sought for Candace J. Johnson Award

The Office of the Provost wishes to recognize exemplary staff at the Ann Arbor and U-M Health System campuses with the Candace J. Johnson Award for Staff Excellence. Established in 2004, the award is a memorial to a dedicated staff member, Candy Johnson. Candy's special blend of professionalism and personality was a positive influence in the workplace. Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate any regular staff member who they feel combines enthusiasm with excellence to truly make a difference at Michigan. Dr. Robert Winfield, U-M's chief health officer and executive director of University Health Service, died Friday, surrounded by family at his home in Ann Arbor. Born in Winnetka, Illinois, Winfield came to Ann Arbor to attend U-M in 1964 and graduated from the Medical School in 1972. Subsequently, he joined UHS in 1981 as a staff physician and became the medical director in 1982. In a special communication recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, a panel has updated 20-year-old guidelines and recommendations for evaluating cost-effectiveness in health and medicine.
