Faculty Mixer for IP-X Interprofessional Team Funding Info

U-M faculty teams across the health sciences are invited to this mixer and info session about the 8 IP-X interprofessional education and practice grants currently offered (up to $60,000 per team!). Hear progress reports from Year 1 IP-X grantees, ask questions about the Year 2 Mcubed Diamond format for the IP-X pilot grant program, and find interprofessional partners for collaboration on team-based funding proposals. The presenter will be 2nd year graduate student Shannon Estadt from Michelle Kahlenberg’s lab who will present the paper titled, "A protective Langerhans cell–keratinocyte axis that is dysfunctional in photosensitivity".

The presenter will be Dr. Nina Steele, Cell & Developmental Biology Research Fellow from Dr. Ben Allen’s lab and Dr. Marina Pasca Di Magliano’s lab, who will present her research “Hedgehog Signaling in Pancreatic Cancer”. 

Unsustainable Pharmaceutical Prices and Potential Solutions

The annual U.S. market for prescription drugs is more than $500 billion, representing almost 17% of all health care expenditures, and it is rising at an unsustainable rate. In 2017, the average American spent $1,100 per year on medications. It is, therefore, no wonder that the public and elected officials are fixated on understanding the factors leading to high prices and forging workable policy solutions. Dr. Sean Sullivan, a health economist and expert on drug pricing, will discuss the many reasons why prescription drugs cost so much in the US and the options to address the problem.
