Urology Grand Rounds: Overcoming Adversity

The Kalima family was devastated by the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. While many of his family members died, Kizito Kalima was able to survive and found refuge in sports. He was able to come to the United States after being scouted for basketball. He attended Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana and graduated with a BA in criminal justice in 2005. Since graduation, Kalima founded the Peace Center for Forgiveness & Reconciliation, a non-for-profit organization in Indianapolis to create a space to remove the obstacles to promote healing for both victims and perpetrators of violence.
