Attend Elaine Ledwon-Robinson’s retirement reception

Please join us in a retirement reception for Elaine Ledwon-Robinson, director of Speech-Language Pathology. Elaine developed and has led the SLP Department for the past 43 years. There are now 47+ SLPs providing services at 10 sites within Michigan Medicine. The SLP staff is involved in a wide variety of clinical programs, including autism assessment/treatment, stroke rehabilitation, voice, feeding and swallowing  assessment/treatment as well as participating in the intra-operative language mapping program. In 1989, Elaine developed and initiated the Milestones’ Pediatric NeuroRehabilitation program, a comprehensive outpatient program for children with acquired neurological impairment, for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.…

Denise Winiarski named fellow of American Society for Health Care Risk Management

Congratulations to Denise Winiarski, J.D., CPHRM, FASHRM, who was recently awarded the designation of fellow of the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (FASHRM). The designation recognizes Winiarski for outstanding individual achievement of professional excellence in the health care risk management profession. Fellows must successfully meet criteria in the areas of academic/professional designations, continuing education, employment experience and contributions to the field of health care risk management through leadership, lecturing and publishing. Help celebrate the retirement of Sue Bade

Michigan Medicine faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the retirement of Sue Bade, lead for MHealthy’s Ergonomics Awareness Program and Occupational Therapy Supervisor. Sue has spent 35 years serving the health and well-being of the university’s faculty and staff. There will be a retirement party held on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Wolverine Tower, room 2082. On June 30, Ann Arbor Family magazine published results of their readers’ “Family Favorites,” which listed Caren Stalburg, M.D., as the top choice in the Obstetrician and Gynecologist category. Joyce Kerestes, R.D.N., M.S., is retiring in mid-August after 43 years as a food and nutrition professional. She has been the director of Patient Food and Nutrition Services since 2000 and the director of the Michigan Medicine Dietetic Internship program since 1993. Joyce began her career at U-M as a clinical dietitian in 1975 and has served in several managerial positions. National Kidney Foundation of Michigan names John Magee, M.D., as new board chair

The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) has elected Michigan Medicine’s John C. Magee, M.D., as chair of its board of directors. Magee joined the board in 2012 where he served as secretary for two years, then vice chair until being elected chair at a meeting on June 20. He replaces Jin-Kyu Koh, who served as chair for the past two years. “We’re looking forward to having John serve as our board chair. Samir Karim retiring after 23 years of service to Michigan Medicine

Samir Karim is retiring on June 29 after 23 years of service to Michigan Medicine. Samir joined the organization in 1995 as a hospital planner in Facilities Planning & Development. Samir was involved in the planning with all the major health centers such as Brighton, Livonia, Canton and Northville. He was also involved in the planning of the Frankel Cardiovascular Center and the Children’s and Women’s hospitals. His vast knowledge and presence will be dearly missed. Zora Djuric, Ph.D., awarded Fulbright Global Scholars Award

Cancer affects billions of individuals worldwide and many are seeking answers for prevention methods. Zora Djuric, Ph.D., professor of family medicine, a well-known researcher in the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and better health, was selected as a Fulbright Global Scholar. Her work to establish global collaborations that lead to new approaches for prevention of cancer is currently underway at the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
