On June 30, Ann Arbor Family magazine published results of their readers’ “Family Favorites,” which listed Caren Stalburg, M.D., as the top choice in the Obstetrician and Gynecologist category. Joyce Kerestes, R.D.N., M.S., is retiring in mid-August after 43 years as a food and nutrition professional. She has been the director of Patient Food and Nutrition Services since 2000 and the director of the Michigan Medicine Dietetic Internship program since 1993. Joyce began her career at U-M as a clinical dietitian in 1975 and has served in several managerial positions. National Kidney Foundation of Michigan names John Magee, M.D., as new board chair

The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) has elected Michigan Medicine’s John C. Magee, M.D., as chair of its board of directors. Magee joined the board in 2012 where he served as secretary for two years, then vice chair until being elected chair at a meeting on June 20. He replaces Jin-Kyu Koh, who served as chair for the past two years. “We’re looking forward to having John serve as our board chair. Samir Karim retiring after 23 years of service to Michigan Medicine

Samir Karim is retiring on June 29 after 23 years of service to Michigan Medicine. Samir joined the organization in 1995 as a hospital planner in Facilities Planning & Development. Samir was involved in the planning with all the major health centers such as Brighton, Livonia, Canton and Northville. He was also involved in the planning of the Frankel Cardiovascular Center and the Children’s and Women’s hospitals. His vast knowledge and presence will be dearly missed. Zora Djuric, Ph.D., awarded Fulbright Global Scholars Award

Cancer affects billions of individuals worldwide and many are seeking answers for prevention methods. Zora Djuric, Ph.D., professor of family medicine, a well-known researcher in the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and better health, was selected as a Fulbright Global Scholar. Her work to establish global collaborations that lead to new approaches for prevention of cancer is currently underway at the University of Belgrade in Serbia. Celebrate the retirement of Chief Risk Officer Rick Boothman, J.D.

All faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the retirement of Rick Boothman, J.D., chief risk officer for Michigan Medicine. Boothman joined the organization in 2001 and has also served as an assistant adjunct professor in the Department of Surgery. C&W Associate Hospital Director Loree Collett to retire

Loree Collett, R.N., B.S.N., MSBA, associate hospital director for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital is retiring on July 13 after a 31-year career with Michigan Medicine. As the associate hospital director, Loree provides strategic direction, administrative and operational leadership for multiple services and functions for children’s and women’s services. Timothy R.B. Johnson, M.D. honored for lifetime contributions to international family planning

Timothy R.B. Johnson, M.D. will be honored with the Allan Rosenfield Award for Lifetime Contributions to International Family Planning. Johnson joined the faculty at U-M in 1993 as the Bates Professor of the Diseases of Women and Children and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, professor of women’s studies, and research professor in the Center for Human Growth and Development.
