Ghana Emergency Medicine Collaborative Highlighted

Since 2007, the University of Michigan Department of Emergency Medicine, through its Ghana Emergency Medicine Collaborative, has been helping train emergency medicine physicians and improve emergency care in Ghana. The Collaborative was featured in an article in the fall 2016 issue of the U-M LSA African Studies Center's "Alliances" newsletter. Read the article and learn more about the program and its work:

Greene & Taylor Retire From PM&R

On behalf of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation O&P admin team, we would like to congratulate Chuck Greene and Mark Taylor on their upcoming retirements. Chuck was the first Certified Pedorthist hired by the UMOPC. He began his career in O&P on December 4th, 1995. In addition to seeing thousands of patients, Chuck was instrumental in the installation of AMFIT into the department. Chuck also completed research on the efficacy of AMFIT custom foot orthoses in the treatment of plantar fasciitis, which played a role in the health system’s decision to cover foot orthoses for staff who need them. Dr. Bashshur, father of telemedicine, to retire 12/31

Rashid L. Bashshur, Ph.D., is retiring from U-M after 54 years of distinguished service, innovation, and leadership in the field of telemedicine. Dr. Bashshur has been leading UMHS telemedicine efforts for the past 18 years. He joined the U-M School of Public Health in 1963 as a professor of medical sociology and health policy. He conducted some of the earliest research on HMOs. In 1998, he joined the UMHS and has held a joint appointment since then. Dr. Mahajan selected for Diagnostic Accuracy Committee

Congratulations to Prashant Mahajan, M.D., professor of emergency medicine and pediatrics, vice chair of the University of Michigan Department of Emergency Medicine and section chief of the U-M Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He has been selected to represent emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine on the Diagnostic Accuracy Committee at the National Quality Forum. His focus will be on diagnostic errors in emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine.

Dr. Huggins named judge for ALS Association Challenge

Congratulations to Jane Huggins, Ph.D., associate research scientist in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She will serve as a judge for the ALS Association and Prize4Life's Assistive Technology Challenge. Connie Cole, RD Retires from PFANS
