Medical Educational Consulting Group earns student service leadership grant

Congratulations to the Medical Educational Consulting Group (@UMMSMedECG) for winning a 2018 Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Student Service Leadership Project (MSSLP) grant! The group’s project was one of three selected for funding this year. James Leonard, Jr., M.D., receives Lifetime Achievement award from AANEM

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation extends a hearty congratulations to James Leonard, Jr., M.D., who will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement award from the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.  Dr. Leonard, former chair of the Department of PM&R, has served the AANEM in many ways over the years. The Lifetime Achievement Award is AANEM’s highest honor and recognizes an AANEM member who has been a major contributor in the fields of neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic medicine through teaching, research, and scholarly publications. Ypsilanti Pediatrics completes successful BCBSM survey

Congratulations to Ypsilanti Pediatrics who recently completed a successful survey visit with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) for the Patient-Centered Medical Home and Neighborhood (PCMH-N) program! Each year, BCBSM randomly selects 1-2 Michigan Medicine primary care (Medical Home) and 1-2 specialty (Neighborhood) sites to participate in this survey process. The sites spend significant time preparing for these visits. The PCMH philosophy is built on 13 initiatives. Each initiative focuses on a domain of function and a set of defined capabilities/standards that will enable the site to achieve the vision for that domain of function. Attend Elaine Ledwon-Robinson’s retirement reception

Please join us in a retirement reception for Elaine Ledwon-Robinson, director of Speech-Language Pathology. Elaine developed and has led the SLP Department for the past 43 years. There are now 47+ SLPs providing services at 10 sites within Michigan Medicine. The SLP staff is involved in a wide variety of clinical programs, including autism assessment/treatment, stroke rehabilitation, voice, feeding and swallowing  assessment/treatment as well as participating in the intra-operative language mapping program. In 1989, Elaine developed and initiated the Milestones’ Pediatric NeuroRehabilitation program, a comprehensive outpatient program for children with acquired neurological impairment, for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.…

Denise Winiarski named fellow of American Society for Health Care Risk Management

Congratulations to Denise Winiarski, J.D., CPHRM, FASHRM, who was recently awarded the designation of fellow of the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (FASHRM). The designation recognizes Winiarski for outstanding individual achievement of professional excellence in the health care risk management profession. Fellows must successfully meet criteria in the areas of academic/professional designations, continuing education, employment experience and contributions to the field of health care risk management through leadership, lecturing and publishing. Michigan Medicine faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the retirement of Sue Bade, lead for MHealthy’s Ergonomics Awareness Program and Occupational Therapy Supervisor. Sue has spent 35 years serving the health and well-being of the university’s faculty and staff. There will be a retirement party held on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Wolverine Tower, room 2082. Joyce Kerestes, R.D.N., M.S., is retiring in mid-August after 43 years as a food and nutrition professional. She has been the director of Patient Food and Nutrition Services since 2000 and the director of the Michigan Medicine Dietetic Internship program since 1993. Joyce began her career at U-M as a clinical dietitian in 1975 and has served in several managerial positions.
