Frankel Innovation Institute makes call for proposals from U-M Medical School faculty
The U-M Medical School’s Frankel Innovation Initiative (FII) is making a call for proposals.
Made possible by a generous donation from the Maxine and Stuart Frankel Foundation, this program is established to advance innovative research by medical school faculty and their collaborators inside and outside U-M, which has the potential for rapid clinical application and groundbreaking impact.
FII is administered by Tom Bumol, the Scientific Advisory Council chair and Keith Gran, the executive director.
FII is a one-year award in the range of $250,000 – $500,000, with the potential for up to three years of consecutive funding. Award winners will receive mentorship from industry and technology development experts. The first step in the application process is the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the FII, which must be submitted through the U-M Medical School Competition Space by noon on May 26.
Selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications.
- LOI submission: Application instructions and LOI templates can be found at the “Frankel Innovation Initiative – 2023” competition listed in the U-M Medical School Competition Space. Completed LOIs must be uploaded to the site as a PDF conforming to the page and format specifications outlined below by noon on May 26.
- Late-June 2023: Semifinalists selected by the U-M internal triage committee for eligibility criteria and fund appropriateness will be invited to submit a full proposal.
