Encrypt your data and devices

Encryption is one of the most useful data protection methods for health care organizations. 

This process encodes messages or information so that only authorized people with the correct decryption key can read it.

Your files

• Delete files securely when you no longer need them.
• Erase and dispose of devices securely when you no longer need them.

U-M data on personal devices

• Do not store U-M data classified as Restricted on personal devices.
• Encryption is required for data classified as High on personal devices.
• Encryption is recommended for data classified as Moderate or Low.
