After 37 years of service to University of Michigan Health, Respiratory Care, Susan Henning is retiring on January 16, 2023.

Henning started her career in 1986 in the Department of Respiratory Care, University Hospital (referred to then as “old Main”) after completing her Respiratory Therapy degree at Monroe Community College. In June of 1987, she was promoted to a clinical supervisor position within the department and served in that capacity until the early 2000’s when she assumed the role of Clinical Specialist for the Trauma-Burn ICU.

Later in 2005, Henning returned to the role as a Respiratory Therapy Supervisor. For the remainder of her career at Michigan, she continued to serve in this leadership capacity. Henning’s contributions are widespread affecting many aspects of care while supporting the development of department staff along the way. Throughout this time, she has experienced and assisted with the expansion of our medical center (moving into two hospitals, UH and CVC), supported countless initiatives, and remained a strong advocate for staff members in the department.

Susan, on behalf of Respiratory Care and the University, thank you all the years of service and the many contributions made along the way.  We congratulate you on your retirement!
