Plan ahead and expect delays: Road closures around Ann Arbor

Please be advised of upcoming and ongoing road closures around Ann Arbor.

Plan ahead and expect delays and alert patients if they will be traveling in the area. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Beginning today, the city of Ann Arbor is anticipating doing utility work at the intersection of Broadway Street and Swift Street during both the work day and overnight hours (avoiding the a.m. and p.m. peak commuting times). This work may last through Jan. 2. Lane closures are expected, but two-way traffic will be maintained.

  • Between today and Thursday, Dec. 23, South University Avenue is expected to be closed between Church Street and South Forest Avenue for private development. 
    • Eastbound vehicles traveling on South University Avenue will be detoured north on Church Street, east on Geddes Avenue, southeast on Washtenaw Avenue, south on Forest Avenue and back to South University Avenue. 
    • Westbound vehicles on South University Avenue will be detoured south on Forest Avenue, west on Hill Street, north on Church Street and back to South University Avenue.
    • Local access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times.
    • Pedestrian traffic on the north side of South University Avenue will be detoured to the south side of the street.
  • On Thursday, Dec. 22, three lanes on Glen Avenue between Catherine Street and East Ann Street are scheduled to be closed.
    • Only southbound traffic will be maintained.
    • Northbound Glen Avenue traffic will be detoured east on East Ann Street to Zina Pitcher Place, then north on Zina Pitcher Place to Catherine Street, then west on Catherine Street back to Glen Avenue. 
    • Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the east side of Glen Avenue.
  • From today until Friday, June 21, 2024, the westbound lane of North Fifth Avenue from Detroit Street to Catherine Street is scheduled to be occupied by construction equipment.
    • The western southbound lane of North Fifth Avenue will be shifted into the eastern southbound lane at Detroit Street. 
    • Access for local businesses and all drive approaches will be maintained at all times. 
    • Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the east side of North Fifth Avenue.
  • From Monday, Dec. 26 until Friday, Dec. 30, East Liberty Street from Maynard to State Street is anticipated to be closed.
    • Westbound Liberty traffic will be detoured south onto South State Street, west on William Street, north on Maynard Street and back to Liberty Street. 
    • Eastbound Liberty Street traffic will be detoured south onto Maynard Street, east onto William Street, north onto State Street and back to Liberty Street.
    • Local businesses will have access maintained at all times. 
    • Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the south side of Liberty Street.
  • From Monday, Jan. 9 until Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, South Fourth Avenue is expected to be closed between Huron Street and Washington Street.
    • Northbound vehicles traveling on South Fourth Avenue will be detoured west on Washington Street, north on Main Street, east on Huron Street and back to South Fourth Avenue. 
    • Southbound vehicles on North Fourth Avenue will be detoured east on Huron Street, south on Fifth Avenue, west on Washington Street and back to South Fourth Avenue.
    • Local access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times. 
    • Pedestrian traffic on the west side of South Fourth Avenue will be detoured to the east side of the street.
