‘Black Art Bursting with Joy’ exhibition now on display
The saying “laughter is the best medicine” is believed to have originated from Proverbs 17:22 of the King James Bible.
Rosaline Vick, a self-taught quilter and seamstress, embellishes portraits of everyday people in the midst of life. Many of them are expressing themselves through laughter — a physical and rhythmic emotion that stimulates your muscles, lungs and heart.
Vick prints her photography on fabric, and then enhances it with paint to bring out vibrant color. She creates an appliqué and presses it onto another piece of fabric to form the background. Then she adds additional detail using thread painting.
