Hitinder Gurm, MBBS, FACC, to serve as interim chief medical officer
Over the past seven years, Jeff Desmond, M.D., has served as the chief medical officer for U-M Health. At the end of 2022, Desmond plans to retire after 29 years of service in various progressive leadership roles.
A search for the next CMO was initiated this summer and is still underway. A final candidate is anticipated to be identified in early 2023.
In the meantime, Hitinder Gurm, MBBS, FACC, has agreed to serve as the interim CMO until a permanent replacement is found. Gurm currently serves as the chief medical officer for Adult Hospitals.
His research interests include quality improvement and outcomes assessment focused on acute coronary syndromes and percutaneous coronary intervention.
