Free jazz acoustic guitar concert to be held later today

November 10, 2022  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

The Grant Gordy and Ross Martin duo began as two friends getting together to play for the pure enjoyment of music-making. They soon set about adapting and arranging the jazz standards they loved for the steel string acoustic guitar, an instrument often associated with folk and country styles.

What developed was a repertoire of tunes spanning most eras of jazz, and original compositions by both players.

For this afternoon’s free online performance, the duo compiled a set of standards and original tunes with hopeful themes like “Things Are Getting Better” and “Bye Bye Blues.”

This concert was supported by Chamber Music America’s Presenter Consortium for Jazz program, funded through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

This concert will be streamed on the Michigan Medicine YouTube channel.
