Donors needed: Blood and platelet donations in short supply following Hurricane Ian

October 11, 2022  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

The need for blood is crucial in the wake of Hurricane Ian.

The storm has forced the cancellation of blood drives in the Southeast, causing potentially life-saving donations to go uncollected. Blood donors are urgently needed to avoid blood shortages this season.

The American Red Cross is conducting a blood drive later this month in the Towsley Lobby.

Thursday, Oct. 20: 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

There is also a critical need for platelet donations. Should supply remain low, the availability of platelets for patient care may be impacted. Please consider a platelet donation to the Red Cross.

To schedule an appointment, log onto RedCrossBlood.org (sponsor code: goblue), call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or email Erin Burns at erin.burns2@redcross.org. Appointments highly recommended. Please bring a photo ID.

Streamline your donation experience and save up to 15 minutes by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete your pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of your appointment.

Volunteers are needed to help at check-in and the canteen tables. Details about donating or volunteering at the drives can be found here: https://wolverinesforlife.org/events.
