U-M College of Pharmacy to host safe medication disposal event at Michigan Medicine

A safe medication disposal event will be held by the U-M College of Pharmacy, during which unused and expired medications will be collected for environmentally safe disposal.

At past events, students collected almost two tons of medication, keeping potentially harmful substances out of our water, landfills and the wrong hands.

The events now accept sharps and sharps containers. 

The event will be held at two locations simultaneously. 

When: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4

Location 1: Triangle area between University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and the Taubman Health Center

Location 2: Ingalls Mall, North Washington St., across from Rackham Auditorium

Accepted items:

  • prescription and over-the-counter medications
  • medication samples
  • vitamins
  • ointments and lotions
  • inhalers
  • antibiotics
  • steroids
  • veterinary medicine
  • controlled medications
  • sharps and sharps containers

Unaccepted items:

  • sunscreen
  • insect repellent
  • cosmetics
  • hair care or personal hygiene products
  • hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol
  • aerosol cans
  • blood or infectious waste
  • tobacco
