Summer produce shines in August’s cooking series

Registration is now open for August’s two-class series. Register by 10 a.m. on Aug. 4.

This month’s classes leave the stove behind to create tasty cold dishes. You’ll also leave Michigan behind to create a simple New England style beach dinner. Chefs will provide tips to help you save time and cut costs.

  • Aug. 10: Keeping it Cool (noon – 12:45 p.m.) — Skip the stove and let the season’s produce be the stars of these simple, “chilled-out” dishes. In this class, you’ll prepare gazpacho and an easy black bean and corn salad.
  • Aug. 24: Go Maize! with Sweet Corn (noon – 12:45 p.m.) — Corn originated in Mexico over 9,000 years ago and is known by its original name “maize” in many parts of the world. Both a vegetable and gluten-free grain, it is loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals. In this class, you’ll prepare a simple soup and a sheet pan beach dinner where corn is the star!
