Week in Review: Pride Month, Care at Home — and more

June 24, 2022  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

This week, Headlines celebrated Pride Month by helping faculty and staff put gender inclusion into practice and respect the chosen names of pronouns of those they work with and care for.

There was also a closer look at the Care at Home program, which offers hospital-level care at home, and team members were recognized for the role they play in keeping everyone safe at Michigan Medicine.

In case you missed anything, here’s the latest:

Putting gender inclusion into practice

It is crucial that Michigan Medicine provides gender-affirming care, which respects and supports a patient’s gender identity. That’s because for people who identify as trans, nonbinary, genderqueer or gender-diverse, going to the doctor can create levels of anxiety and depression that cisgender people don’t often contend with. Click to learn how you can play a role in providing such care to everyone.

What’s in a preferred name?

It’s summer — the time when a lot of new team members join the organization. That means you’ll likely be learning some new names, many of which are nicknames or do not match a person’s given name. In honor of Pride Month, click through for more on chosen or affirmed names and pronouns and why getting them right is important at Michigan Medicine.

Home is where the hospital is

The Care at Home program helps patients safely shorten a stay or receive certain hospital-level treatments at home without being admitted as an inpatient. The program proved successful in completing COVID-19 treatments at home. In response, the team began to expand its services. Everyone plays a part in keeping our environment safe

Nothing is more important than maintaining a blanket of safety and security for our patients and staff. Fortunately, team members across the organization make it their mission to Speak Up for Safety whenever necessary.
