Michigan Value Collaborative Preoperative Testing Workgroup
Thursday, June 23, 2022
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Guest speaker: Dr. Michael Danic, DO, anesthesiologist with Ascension Genesys
The Michigan Value Collaborative is hosting a special one-time presentation and discussion on unnecessary preoperative testing rates in Michigan. Guests will hear from a guest speaker about safe, evidence-based strategies to reduce unindicated preoperative testing and the reasons it can be so hard to change. MVC invites clinicians, hospital quality personnel, and others interested in preoperative testing to attend.
This workgroup presentation is part of a larger, week-long promotion from June 20-24 to raise awareness about preoperative testing rates across Michigan. Preoperative testing is a priority area for the MVC team as we work to drive improvement in hospitals and physician organizations throughout the state of Michigan. Many preoperative tests are unnecessary for healthy patients undergoing low-risk procedures, yet a majority of hospitals continue to order these tests. When preoperative tests that aren’t clinically indicated are administered, it can delay procedures, cause a cascade of care, and create additional burdens for patients. Please see the attached press release for complete information and quotes.
What is MVC?
Working in conjunction with the many specialty-specific Collaborative Quality Improvement (CQI) programs in BCBSM’s Value Partnership Program, MVC aims to improve healthcare quality across Michigan through rigorous performance feedback, empirical identification of best practices, and collaborative learning.
