COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months to 5 years

The FDA has authorized emergency use of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines in children as young as 6 months of age. U-M Health is working to update its vaccine clinic procedures to reflect the CDC’s new recommendations for children age 6 months to 5 years.

Vaccine scheduling will be primarily available through the MyUofMHealth patient portal. There is a lot of planning and preparation underway to make these vaccines available to our patients as safety and quickly as possible.

As a high reliability organization, our commitment is to ensure the online self-scheduling system includes mechanisms that ensure patients are scheduled for the right dose for their precise age. This is a complex, time consuming process but is necessary to ensure the safety of our patients based on the guidelines issued by the CDC in the last week.

Additional updates regarding availability and frequently asked questions about the vaccines for children ages 6 months to 5 years available on the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital website.
