Road, sidewalk closures scheduled around Ann Arbor in the coming days

Please be advised of upcoming road and sidewalk closures expected to take place across Ann Arbor over the next few days and weeks.

Plan ahead and expect delays and alert patients if they will be traveling in the area. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The city’s technology infrastructure improvement project is expected to resume today, May 2, and last through May 20. Here are the impacted areas:
    • South University Avenue (north side from Washtenaw to East University): Metered parking and sidewalk closures. Intermittent lane closures for potholing at intersections.
    • East Liberty (north and south side from Fifth Street to State Street): Metered parking and sidewalk closures. Intermittent lane closures for potholing at intersections.
    • Miller Avenue at North Ashley Street: Sidewalk and lane closures on Miller, Ashley and Huron.
    • South Main Street between Mosley Street and West Jefferson: Sidewalk and lane closures
    • West William Street between South First and South Ashley Street: Sidewalk and lane closures.
  • From Tuesday, May 3 at 9 a.m. until Friday, May 6 at 5 p.m., East Liberty Street from Maynard to State Street is expected to be closed for utility work.
    • Westbound Liberty Street traffic will be detoured south onto South State Street, west onto William Street, north on Maynard and back to Liberty.
    • Eastbound traffic will be detoured south onto Maynard, east on William, north onto State and back to Liberty.
    • Local business access will be maintained and pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the south side of Liberty.
  • From Wednesday, May 4 until Friday, June 4, a new water main is scheduled to be constructed at the intersection of Newport Road and Bird Road.
    • The intersection will be closed to northbound, eastbound and westbound traffic.
      • Northbound traffic will be detoured via North Maple Road from Miller Avenue.
      • Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Warrington Drive to West Huron River Drive.
      • One lane will be maintained for southbound traffic on Newport Road.
