‘Snapshot Aprons’ photo-based art exhibition now showing at University Hospital, online
Michelle Colling Saffran’s photo-based art explores the influences of memory on identity. This body of work uses historical photographs from family albums and found images as a catalyst for seeing all time as present at once, creating an imaginative experience beyond ordinary perception.

Saffran manipulates the photographic image both digitally and by hand through acts of sewing and collaging, moving the photograph off the wall and into a three-dimensional visual narrative.
Saffran, who now lives in Vermont, was born in Detroit and grew up in Southfield, where all of the photographs used to create this work were taken.
