Jodyn Platt is new senior scholar in residence for Research Community on Trust
The Research Community on Trust, a new joint initiative from AcademyHealth and ABIM Foundation to increase trust in health care, recently selected Jodyn E. Platt, M.P.H., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS), as their senior scholar in residence.
As DLHS faculty, Platt works on a variety of trust-related issues in health care including: understanding entrustment, informed consent, and earning, achieving and sustaining trust. She is also a leader in exploring issues around the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) of learning health systems.
In her new role as senior scholar in residence Platt will leverage her medical sociology and health policy training to provide scholarly guidance to AcademyHealth and ABIM Foundation as well as contribute to raising issues of confidence in health care to help build “field of trust research in health care.” Through blog posts and other public avenues, she will also work to increase visibility of new and emerging trust issues in this unique time for global health care delivery.
Platt is excited to lend her skills to the AcademyHealth and the ABIM Foundation communities’ efforts.
“It will be important for this initiative not only to engage with the issues and hotspots that erode or break trust, which manifested recently in misinformation and skepticism about vaccinations, but also to regain the confidence of the public in health and health care,” Platt said. “I look forward to working with AcademyHealth and the ABIM Foundation to foster the intellectual community that can help us build systems better than the ones we have now.”
