AHA Heart Walk Rally Day this Wednesday

April 4, 2022  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

The American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk Rally Day is this Wednesday, April 6. Rally Day was designed to increase awareness and participation in the annual AHA Heart Walk, the association’s premier event raising funds to save lives from the country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers, heart disease and stroke.

The 2022 AHA Washtenaw County Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, May 14, at Rynearson Stadium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. Walkers are invited to attend the in-person event on May 14 or, if preferred, can opt to create their own path.

Once again, Michigan Medicine is proud to be part of this event. Teams from across the organization will be walking in support of the millions of Americans – including our own patients, faculty members and staff – affected by heart disease and stroke.

Why support the Heart Walk?

In the past fifty years, the American Heart Association has funded 746 research grants at Michigan Medicine, totaling more than $75 million. Current funding of more than $14 million is supporting 73 active projects and, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the AHA has given an additional $2.7 million in grants to Michigan Medicine.

For years, Michigan Medicine has been a leading supporter of the Washtenaw County Heart Walk to raise money for groundbreaking research, critical patient education and community outreach projects.

This year, Michigan Medicine has set a goal to raise $30,000.
