Presentation Skills for Non-Native English-Speaking Medical School Faculty: Optional Session 3
Tuesday, May 24, 2022
12:00pm - 1:30pm
This workshop is a 2-part series (with an optional 3rd session); participants must attend both sessions.
As a non-native English speaker, do you find giving presentations to an English-speaking audience challenging? Does the language barrier sometimes make you second-guess yourself or get in the way of audience engagement, even if you are an experienced presenter in your native tongue? Would you like to improve your verbal and non-verbal communication skills so you can connect with an audience more easily and effectively? If so, please join speech coach and public speaking trainer Eleni Kelakos, The Speaker Whisperer®, and Jiawei Ribaudo, PhD from Global REACH, for a three-session workshop series. The sessions will address the unique challenges you face as a non-native English speaker expected to effectively deliver pitches, presentations, and lectures in English. Through discussion and direct application of tools and techniques, you’ll shift your perception around presenting in English and gain the skills you need to be a more confident and effective public speaker.
This workshop is hosted by the Office of Faculty Development and is intended for faculty. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this workshop or have questions about accessibility, please contact us at UMMS-Faculty-Development@med.umich.edu.
