Watercolor and acrylics by Ruthanne Baker

Ruthanne Baker is an Ann Arbor artist known for her paintings of natural imagery with rich patterned surfaces and a loose grid structure. She creates depth by painting many layers in a variety of watercolor media on watercolor or Yupo paper.

Artwork in this show ranges from geometric abstracts to complex patterned flower-inspired gardens to experimental landscapes.

Some are watercolors and watercolor collages, while some have acrylic elements painted or collaged into them.

Her paintings are owned by private collectors and organizations including C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bloomfield Township Library and Ann Arbor Public Library.

Ceramic planes by Frank James Fisher

Ceramic artist Frank James Fisher brings a somewhat grounded, yet slightly airborne perspective into this gallery with his ceramic, paper-thin planes.

As part of his Pop Artifact series, this flock of aircraft reveal the random thoughts, wishes and challenges of American life. Each plane is unique and shows the wear of life’s journey. Perhaps the planes could be a metaphor for life and our travels through it?

Fisher’s art is exhibited nationally, in public collections, and published in periodicals and books. He is an author and teaches ceramic art workshops. He is a lifelong Michigan resident currently living in Milford. He occasionally travels by plane.
