Benjamin S. Miles named new president of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea
Benjamin S. Miles will become the new president of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, succeeding Nancy Graebner-Sundling, who officially began her retirement last week. Miles’ first day will be April 18.
St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea is a joint venture between Trinity Health and U-M Health.
Miles has a proven reputation as a results-oriented health care leader, bringing expertise in strategy, operations, process improvement, project management and finance. He is also an articulate, effective communicator able to clearly translate complex concepts, helping to strengthen understanding and alignment.
Most recently, he served as the President – Health Plan Services & Chief Advocacy Officer at Parkview Health in Fort Wayne, Indiana. While with the organization, he helped the team earn numerous patient safety and workplace engagement awards and was named to IBM Watson Health’s “100 Top Hospital” and “Top 15 Health System” lists.
In the weeks leading up to Miles’ arrival, Shannon Striebich will be supporting senior leaders as needed. SJMC’s leadership team is led by chief medical officer, Alon Weizer, M.D. — also a U-M Health urologist; chief nursing officer and vice president of clinical services, Cheryl Taylor, R.N.; Chief Human Resources Officer Tonia Schemer, and executive director of finance, Shannon Scott.
