Preparing for severe winter weather

February 1, 2022  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

Severe winter weather is anticipated for our region beginning Wednesday morning. Departments and staff should always be prepared and review the organization’s Severe Weather Plan to help ensure the safety of all staff, patients and visitors.

Because of the organization’s commitment to providing exceptional patient care, all U-M Health System and Shared Services personnel are considered critical employees and are expected to report to work during regularly scheduled shifts in the event the university declares an emergency reduction in operations. U-M Medical School non-critical activities will follow the campus reduction in operations plan.

Those employees working remotely will continue to work from home and are not to come into the office unless directed to do so by your supervisor.

In anticipation of the severe weather, the organization will be implementing its meal ticket and cot distribution program. Please note, due to supply chain constraints, those who need to utilize the program should bring their own linens and pillows.

Should the weather cause shortages among Liberty Security screening staff, the organization will prioritize keeping major entrances staffed and open. The initial entrances that would close due to any potential shortages would be the C&W Staff Entrance, the Rogel Cancer Center Staff Entrance and the UH South Staff Entrance (see map at right).

Finally, stay tuned to the Employees @ Michigan Medicine Facebook page for any up-to-the-minute updates during the storm.
