The Office of Faculty Development offers a wide array of workshops to help faculty prepare for promotion at every stage of their career.

Early-Career Kickstart

New faculty should attend these sessions 3-to-6 months after their orientation. Once the faculty member has had a few months to settle in at U-M, we provide a second session to help faculty succeed in their new role. These workshops offer track specific information/resources and also include:

Research track: Funding and grant resources; regulatory affairs; and setting up your lab

Tenure (Instructional) trackFaculty wellbeing; giving feedback; funding and grant resources; and regulatory affairs

Clinical trackOverview and discussion of clinical track pathways; faculty wellbeing; and giving feedback

Developing Your Educator’s Portfolio

This workshop is designed for late-stage junior faculty and early mid-career faculty who are interested in the promotional trajectory from the Assistant to Associate and to the Full Professor designation. Those who participate will enjoy the opportunity to learn some of the best approaches to putting together a teaching portfolio and discuss the promotion process. In addition, participants will benefit from group discussion and consulting expertise regarding promotion package refinement.

Promotion Packet Dos and Don’ts

These workshops will guide faculty through some of the most common areas of concern encountered during the promotion process on each track. Learn the easiest areas for improvements for your promotion packet, what documents you can begin working on now, and common errors to avoid.
