This weekend’s U-M Life Sciences Orchestra concert canceled
After three months of rehearsals, the first since early 2020, the Life Sciences Orchestra (LSO) was eager to present a concert on Sunday, Jan. 9 with full COVID-19 precautions.
But with the rapid rise in cases and hospitalizations in our area and beyond, and with the need for orchestra members — made up of U-M doctors, nurses, scientists, engineers and other health and science professionals, students and alumni — to stay healthy and able to care for patients, it became apparent during the holiday break that the plan was not feasible.
As a result, out of an abundance of caution, the Jan. 9 performance has been canceled. There are ongoing discussions regarding options for a future in-person or live-streamed performance of all or part of this program, and the LSO will update its website and Facebook page accordingly. In the meantime, please plan to attend the next concert, scheduled for April 1, at Hill Auditorium.
The orchestra is part of the Gifts of Art Program, which brings the world of art and music to Michigan Medicine. The LSO gives members an outlet for their musical talents and a chance to interact with one another across related academic disciplines and professions.
