OHEI and Organizational Learning partner to offer LARA-compliant implicit bias training

Information regarding the Building Toward Belonging Implicit Bias training has been updated.

The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) is proud to partner with Organizational Learning and various departments across U-M to provide a comprehensive Implicit Bias training to meet newly adopted guidelines set forth by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

These new LARA requirements state that as of June 1, 2022, new applicants for health care licensure or registration will need to complete a minimum of two hours of training; and applicants for renewal will need to complete a minimum of one hour of training annually, equaling up to three hours total for a three year license renewal. 

Although many departments throughout Michigan Medicine provide excellent diversity training including grand rounds, classroom sessions and guest speakers, with this new requirement it can be difficult to determine what meets the state standard and what is sufficient.

OHEI and Organizational Learning are removing the guesswork by providing three one-hour modules that can be taken individually or in sequence to meet licensing requirements. These trainings will be held both as public sessions and upon unit requests. Customization options are being built into this training, ensuring that content is applicable to a wide variety of departments and job roles. These customized modules may be available upon request. 

A training schedule for public sessions will be published in March, with offerings beginning in May 2022.
