Active U gets U-M moving each winter
Active U returns for its 17th year, encouraging the university community to get moving toward the same goal — being active.
Registration is now open for MHealthy’s 12-week physical activity challenge. Tracking activity minutes starts Jan. 24.
Active U is designed for any fitness level and encourages being physically active for 120 minutes or more per week. That works out to about 30 minutes four times a week. All employees, students, retirees and employee spouses and other qualified adults can join.
Program highlights include:
- Participate as an individual or join a team for extra motivation
- Sync to more devices and apps, including Apple Watch and Fitbit
- Access to MHealthy’s new exercise video library
- Get weekly tips, motivation and support
“All movement is good so take a walk, dance to your favorite song, play in the snow with the kids,” said Colleen Greene, senior wellness coordinator for MHealthy. “It all counts and is great for your body, mind and mood.”
Jacques Chestnut said roller skating has been a fun way to stay active and get in his Active U minutes.
“It’s something I’ve been doing since middle school,” said Chestnut, an administrative assistant in the School of Information. “Roller skating may be outside the ‘normal’ physical activity, but not only do I get a decent workout, it also helps me clear my mind.”
Active U and more available on the MHealthy Portal
Registration for Active U takes place on the MHealthy Portal, powered by Asset Health. Activity is logged through the portal or by syncing to a tracking device.
All participants will also have access to a new exercise video library, featuring more than 50 on-demand MHealthy classes like cardio, strength, yoga and more.
Benefits-eligible faculty and staff and their U-M health plan enrolled spouses/OQAs can also access the portal’s entire suite of online health and well-being programs and resources, including a new goal setting feature and the annual health questionnaire. Completing the 2022 health questionnaire will identify well-being areas of success and opportunities to engage in health-related programs throughout the year.
Tracking activity minutes in Active U starts Jan. 24. Register and choose to participate as an individual or join a team no later than Feb. 7.
