TheRide implementing reduced service plan due to workforce shortage
The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) has announced that effective Dec. 23, TheRide will be temporarily implementing reduced frequency on select routes and a suspension of service on Route 68. These reductions of service will be until further notice due to a workforce shortage. A-Ride and FlexRide service will continue to operate without any reductions.
“While the service reductions are limited, we do apologize for any inconvenience they may cause,” Matt Carpenter, CEO of TheRide said. “We want to assure the public that we are working to return to full service as quickly as possible.”
The reduced service plan effective Dec. 23 is as follows:
- Route 68: Temporarily suspended
The following routes may have their frequency of service reduced, depending on workforce availability each day:
- Route 4: Reduced frequency (Dec. 23-24 and after Dec. 31), holiday schedule (Dec. 27 – Dec. 31)
- Route 24: Reduced frequency (Dec. 23-24 and after Dec. 31)
- Route 62: Reduced frequency (Dec. 23-24 and after Dec. 31), holiday schedule (Dec. 27 – Dec. 31)
If daily service is reduced, the information will be posted on TheRide’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, TheRide continues to enforce the established preventive measures to keep both riders and drivers safe:
- Customers are required to wear a face covering, per federal law.
- The driver is to be approached for emergencies only.
- Buses are cleaned with CDC-recommended protocols.
- Plastic barriers are added to separate drivers and riders on fixed-route buses.
- Sanitation supplies are provided to employees.
- Masks, gloves and face shields are provided for drivers’ use.
- Lost and Found collection has been temporarily suspended.
