State fire inspectors to visit main medical campus early next week
Two inspectors with the State Bureau of Fire Services are scheduled to be on the main medical campus at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15 and Tuesday, Nov. 16 for the annual fire/life safety inspection.
Two teams with representatives from Facilities Management, Maintenance and Safety Management Services will escort the inspectors through the buildings under BFS jurisdiction.
One team will tour C&W, UHS and CVC and another team will tour UH. The inspections will conclude around 2:30 p.m. and will continue into Tuesday for any areas that were not completed on Monday.
Here are some things to keep in mind prior to this visit:
Corridor clearance
Corridor clutter (unattended wheelchairs, stretchers and other equipment) creates a safety hazard for everyone, becoming trip hazards which can block the means of egress. Please ensure that corridors, exits, extinguishers and pull alarms are kept unobstructed.
Doors
Please do NOT tape door latches and do NOT place items such as towels over the doors so they don’t close and latch properly. Doors that don’t operate as intended can allow smoke and fire to spread.
Please do NOT use door wedges to prop doors open.
