Colorful California dinnerware now on display at Taubman Center

Nothing quite sets off something thoughtfully prepared like exuberant dinnerware!
In 2020, the International Museum of Dinnerware Design (IMoDD) received a donation of more than 350 pieces from the Bill Stern estate, who founded the Museum of California Design in Los Angeles. Designers include Rockwell Kent, Dorothy Thorpe and LaGarda Tackett, among others. A partial list of the manufacturers of these designs include Vernon Kilns, Schmid Porcelain International, Wallace China, Vadna of California, Bauer and Pacific Pottery. The forms are innovative, the decorative patterns are spell-binding, and the glazes are frequently bright, bright, bright.
And now, they’re on display at Michigan Medicine:
Where: Gifts of Art Gallery – Taubman Health Center North Lobby, Floor 1.
When: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily through Dec. 3.
If you aren’t on the main medical campus, you can check out the work online!
