Plan Ahead Checklist, roadmap can help returning employees; forum set for Aug. 31
As Michigan Medicine managers and their teams work together in the coming weeks and months to craft strategies for onsite and remote work, several tools are now available to help employees who may be returning to campus in some capacity.
A comprehensive “Plan Ahead Checklist” can help employees address some items ahead of time. This includes updating their MCard, reviewing parking and campus transportation options — some transportation routes have changed — reporting their vaccination status, understanding masking and social distancing requirements, using the ResponsiBlue app, making wellness a priority, and accessing technology and facilities resources.
The Flexible First Roadmap lays out a timeline well into 2022 that includes a reminder of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all faculty, staff and learners (by Aug. 30), a reminder of when Remote Work Agreements are due (Oct. 1), and when Facilities will consider sitewide space solutions (January through September, 2022).
The roadmap also includes advice to: Be Mindful, that this is a transition; Be Flexible, that we are all in this together; and a reminder to Be Slow and Steady and to pace yourself.
“Anxiety is one of the most common emotions surrounding the return to onsite office spaces. You may not be feeling anxious, but keep in mind that your colleagues might,” according to advice posted on the roadmap. “We all shared the collective trauma of the pandemic experience, but our responses to new adjustments and changing work environments may be very different. Stay flexible, be understanding and work together. Continue to adapt and learn from your new routine and adjust when necessary.”
In addition to these helpful resources, Michigan Medicine leadership will host a virtual employee forum to discuss the Flexible First Workforce and Workplace initiative from 1-2 p.m. on Aug. 31.
Members of the Planning Committee will present an update on Flexible First and share the latest U-M and Michigan Medicine guidance. There also will be a Q&A session.
