Making a Difference: Teamwork

August 16, 2021  //  FOUND IN: Our Employees,
Making a Difference: Teamwork.

Employees across Michigan Medicine continue to make a difference and inspire colleagues through their hard work and dedication. Each month, Headlines features a set of randomly selected submissions from the Making a Difference awards program that highlight our employees’ dedication to an organizational core value.

This month, the core value of focus is teamwork: We will work together with a shared purpose rooted in equity and fairness where diversity is celebrated, respected and valued.

It is important to recognize the contributions employees make to the organization as it helps the team to become more motivated, drives better teamwork and gives each individual a sense that they are an integral part of achieving organizational goals.

You matter, your work matters, and you are appreciated.

Here are this month’s teamwork submissions:

Justin Sivils, HITS OCIO administration

My thanks and appreciation go to Justin for navigating and leading our migration from Box to Dropbox. You proactively grabbed onto that challenge and saw it through with great diligence and cooperation. Thanks for making that contribution on behalf of Information Assurance.

Tami Dupie, ULAM

Tami, thank you for always being so patient with our team as we assist you and for always having as much information as possible for us when we need assistance back. It has been a crazy year for us all and your kindness while figuring out short code and billing issues has made working with you and your team a joy. Thank you!

Zheyi Han, M.D., internal medicine

Dr. Han, thank you for spending a significant amount of time (at least a half hour) after a busy clinic day translating in Mandarin for another patient and physician, then offering to care for the Mandarin speaking patient. The patient was extremely appreciative for not having to rely on phone translator and you helped them get the best care possible!

Andre Jamison, pediatric administration

Andre always goes the extra mile to try and get my patients the appointments I need on the days I request. He tries his best and will have me wait if necessary while he skypes coworkers to check for openings. He is a real advocate for the patients.

Dana Halfacre, Orthotics and Prosthetics Center

Dana helped me get a prescription correctly written for a patient that came into orthotics and prosthetics so we could supply him with a forearm brace. She worked with me over skype to serve the patient’s needs. Thank you, Dana, for being a great teammate!

Johnathan Beere, OR administration

On behalf of the UH and CVC OR administration, we would like to thank John and his team for demonstrating how teamwork, flexibility and caring is carried out. They assisted us with a logistically-challenging task that entailed an overhaul and exchange of our CVC OR Liquid Nitrogen Cryo freezer that housed valuable implants that help our cardiac patients. John and team were so understanding despite the multiple time delays. Thank you for being flexible and such team players!

Evan Drake-Austin, operator, Friends Gift Shop

Evan quickly noticed that the pack slip on a received delivery was not for our address. He brought it to my attention so we could notify the supplier and arrange for pickup. Most importantly, because he caught it right away, he saved any time that would have been spent repacking the merchandise for reshipment — which would have been four large boxes! Thanks Evan for your good eyes and quick thinking!

Jacquelyn Henderson, research – clinical trial units

I would like to recognize Jacquelyn for providing efficient and timely cross coverage for the MCTSU team. When asked to provide coverage, Jacquelyn accepts all assignments with a can-do attitude and delivers needed action items quickly and thoroughly. Her positive approach to helping her team and leaders is unsurpassed and this is the level of teamwork that is exemplified among MCTSU Finance. I applaud Jacquelyn for her performance and dedication to her team.
