Michigan Medicine has three Crain’s Health Care Hero Award winners
Congratulations to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital’s pediatric care team, Renee Shellhaas, M.D., a pediatric neurologist at Mott, and Monica Waidley, R.N., a registered nurse at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, for receiving the Crain’s 2021 Health Care Hero Award!
The awards recognize leaders in health care and, according to Crain’s Detroit, this year’s winners reflect the extra mile every health care worker has gone during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Mott pediatric care team won in the medical research innovation category for an 11-hour surgery to separate conjoined twins during the pandemic last year. Shellhaas won in the physician category for her research that is improving care for newborns with seizures. Waidley won in the allied health category for her work developing an enhanced skin assessment program to ensure earlier identification of pressure injuries in dark-skinned patients.
Congratulations to our health care heroes!
