Visitor policy to change Wednesday, May 26

Beginning on Wednesday, May 26 at 7 a.m., updates have been made to the existing visitor policy to make it less restrictive.

 NEW POLICYPREVIOUS POLICY
Adult InpatientsOne single visitor per day is allowed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.   *Adult patients with developmental delays/significant cognitive impairments will be allowed to have one (1) visitor remain bedside around the clock when visitor required for safety and is considered essential to the patient’s care.    COVID+/PUI: No visitors allowed except at end of life (EOL)  No visitors unless patient has cognitive or physical impairment that requires assistance.   *Adult patients with developmental delays/ significant cognitive impairments will be allowed to have one (1) visitor remain bedside around the clock when visitor required for safety and is considered essential to the patient’s care.   Bone Marrow Transplant (Adult) patients (CW 7 West): Patients expected to be hospitalized more than or equal to 3 weeks are allowed 1 (same) visitor who would need to test COVID negative within 96 hours prior to visiting and is allowed to stay in the patient room for the entirety of the patients stay. If the visitor leaves prior to discharge, they cannot return so as to minimize exposure between patient and community.   COVID+/PUI: No visitors allowed except at end of life (EOL)
Ambulatory Clinics (Adult patients)  One visitor (16 years old or older) can accompany each adult patient to an appointment, unless an additional aide or assistant is required due to cognitive or physical impairments. If a patient presents with a child or children due to day care/schooling closures, the child(ren) should be roomed with the patient.  No visitors for adult patients unless patient has cognitive or physical impairment that requires assistance.
Adult Emergency Services  May have one single visitor per patient per day.  Due to continued waiting room capacity constraints, only medically necessary visitors will be allowed to wait in the waiting room with the patient if an exam room is not open upon completion of triage.  All other visitors will be directed to the UH Main Lobby to wait until the patient is in an exam room.    COVID+/PUI: No visitors allowed except for end-of-life care. In this situation the visitor must remain masked in the patient room with limited exceptions for restroom or food breaks.No visitors unless patient has cognitive or physical impairment that requires assistance. Regarding visitor restrictions, the following definition of pediatric patients will be applied in the inpatient and ambulatory settings to facilitate parent/guardian presence for pediatric patients:

  • Patients from birth until their 21st birthday (age < 21 years)
  • Patients followed by a pediatric subspecialty service

Pediatric patients 18 years of age and older, and those who are emancipated minors, may opt to follow adult visitor guidelines rather than pediatric guidelines.
