Reflections on COVID-19: Free one-on-one sessions available to record your story

Having just passed the one-year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gifts of Art is offering free Story Studio recording opportunities for Michigan Medicine faculty, staff and learners in the month of May.

To give you a taste of the process, consider your ideal audience. Who might you like to share your story with? Imagining an ideal listener (spouse, family member, close friend) or a supportive group can help you to find your way into a meaningful story.

Here are a couple of examples of possible prompts:

  • Consider the person you are today and the person you were just before the pandemic started. How are you different?
  • What life lessons have you learned along the way? What would you like to remember about this time to carry forward with you into the future and to share with future generations?

Here’s a sample from Missy Gabriel, GME program administrator, Gastroenterology & Hepatology: https://www.med.umich.edu/goa/StoryStudio_Gabriel.wav

The goal of Story Studio: Reflections on COVID-19 is to honor this challenging time by offering a space for reflection — where participants can record 2-5 minute stories, and if they choose, make them available for listening by coworkers and colleagues. All participants, whether or not the story is shared publically, will receive it as a digital file.

Gifts of Art provides complimentary audio editing services, including optional music, to ensure a finished result. Presented in partnership with the Office of Counseling & Workplace Resilience.
