Painted quilts on display at Michigan Medicine
Sue Holdaway-Heys is an Ann Arbor-based artist and U-M Master of Fine Arts graduate. She has worked in the art quilt medium for 40 years and her work ranges from miniature to wall-sized.
Starting with the traditional quilt (three layers stitched together) Holdaway-Heys creates a surface that incorporates layers of fused fabrics, paint and stitching. Then she quilts all of the layers together.
Choosing beauty in the world as her subject, her quilts are most often pictorial. She focuses on images from travels, flowers in her gardens, or things in the world around her.
