Nurse holds a trophy, a certificate and a green bag.

Congratulations to Cassandra Seidler, R.N., who recently earned a DAISY Award for her impressive work.

The DAISY Awards are given out by the DAISY Foundation to nurses who go above and beyond in their role.

Seidler has been recognized for her efforts on the CVICU.

Here’s an excerpt from one of her nominations, as submitted by a patient:

“Cassandra was by far the best nurse I have ever had.

I went in for heart valve replacement surgery and woke up to find that I had been in a medically-induced coma, on ECMO and it was two weeks later.

Not only was this terrifying to deal with, but I also found out that the world was shut down due to COVID-19 and I couldn’t have visitors, which included my husband and five-month old baby!

I could barely talk from all the time I was on the ventilator, and I couldn’t move my body because I had been bedridden for so long. To say I was depressed was an understatement.

But I always looked forward to when Cassandra would be my nurse again. She went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, safe and heard. She would sit next to me while I cried, feed me when I couldn’t use my hands to feed myself, and she even fed me ice chips when I felt like I was going to be sick.

I felt completely defeated, especially during physical therapy when I couldn’t stand or walk on my own. But she was always positive, encouraging and would tell me how great I was doing. I even have a video she took of me standing with her saying ‘you go girl!’

My husband told her about how much I loved my nails painted, so she even brought in nail polish and painted my nails. My hair was also in knots and she took the time to section my hair and brush it out for me.

It was the extra things she did for me that helped me move forward with my recovery. She truly made me feel like I wasn’t alone, and for that I appreciate her very much! Thank you, Cassandra. You are awesome!”
