Ceramics by Lauren Herzak-Bauman on display at Michigan Medicine

Ceramic artwork created by Lauren Herzak-Bauman.
One of Herzak-Bauman’s pieces.

Lauren Herzak-Bauman is an artist based in Lakewood, Ohio.

Each of her stacks is made by assembling dozens, sometimes even hundreds, of handmade clay slabs. Through the process, the porcelain dries and shrinks, and cracks emerge.

Rather than seeing these inevitable cracks as flaws, they become beautiful, meaningful and necessary components that enrich each sculpture. White clay and the repetition of form can transport viewers, offering visual and mental resting places.

Check out her work for yourself!
