Recognition Month wrap-up

March 31, 2021  //  FOUND IN: Our Employees

Michigan Medicine celebrated National Recognition Month during the month of March — taking time to acknowledge and reward those who make the organization a global destination for patient care, education and research.

To learn more about recognition and give you some ideas on how to improve it in your area, here’s a look back at National Recognition Month at Michigan Medicine:

Michigan Medicine Recognition Site

There are many ways to show appreciation for colleagues, including using the Michigan Medicine Recognition Site.

While it launched in Fall 2020, usage of the site has increased during Recognition Month with 2,093 Making a Difference awards issued, 612 eCards sent and 236 MVP nominations submitted. (There is still time to submit your MVP nominations.)

The site is available at any time and recognition can be sent to any Michigan Medicine faculty or staff member by peers or patients and their families.

What’s next: Employee Appreciation Week (May 10 – 14)

Even though the month is coming to a close, it doesn’t mean that recognition should. Recognition should be part of a daily routine.

“Recognition is more than saying ‘thank you’ and should be reinforced far more than just in the month of March,” said JoAnn Grantham, recognition manager for Michigan Medicine. “We must continue the momentum of this month and show appreciation for each other all year long.”

As an organization, Michigan Medicine will host its second virtual Employee Appreciation Week on May 10 – 14, 2021. After positive feedback from the first virtual event in September 2020, the Recognition Program is excited to bring back the week-long series to promote health, wellness and fun to faculty and staff. The final agenda will be announced in the coming weeks in Headlines.

Grantham gave details of Employee Appreciation Week on the latest episode of The Wrap employee podcast, which celebrated Recognition Month.
