Faculty, staff and families to come together to pay tribute to patients
Please join faculty, staff and more than 1,000 families for a virtual memorial service on Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m.
The ceremony will pay tribute to adult Michigan Medicine patients who have died during the past two years.
The Adult Memorial Service is an opportunity to honor the challenging work everyone at Michigan Medicine carries out for patients and families, as well as to acknowledge their own grief, both professional and personal. By reflecting on professional losses, employees deepen their capacity for compassion and empathy.
The Adult Memorial Service — sponsored by the Department of Spiritual Care and the Office of Decedent Affairs — is planned and carried out by a multidisciplinary committee and chaired by Chaplain Bruce Paul.
There will be several speakers at this year’s event, including Cathy Kendrick, M.S., R.N., CNML, NE-BC, interim chief nursing officer at UH/CVC, and Jakob McSparron, M.D., associate director of the CCMU.
Other speakers include Josette Schembri, R.N., family speaker Sheri Hicks, and Adam Marks, M.D., M.P.H.. FAAHPM, program director of the Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care.
Still more will be reading poetry and providing live music.
The committee invites others to honor the memory and celebrate the light of so many patients.
