Santa makes virtual visits to children at Mott

Pandemic rules apply to all – even Santa.

But nothing could stop Mr. and Mrs. Claus from continuing their longtime tradition of visiting sick children at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to several donors and volunteers, children who are spending their holiday season at the hospital still got their cherished visit with Santa, albeit socially distanced. He visited them from the North Pole via Zoom.

Child and Family Life staff took the big man in the red suit room to room through an iPad. Children had the chance to share their Christmas list, take a photo and receive usual gifts without leaving their hospital beds.

“Visiting Santa is such a magical moment for young kids, but many of our patients are missing opportunities to make those special holiday memories because they’re at the hospital,” said Mott Child and Family Life Director Lindsay Heering.

“Because of their health conditions, visiting Santa isn’t possible for many of them, let alone during a pandemic. We are so thankful to the donors who are giving the gift of time to keep the tradition alive this year.”
